What is the Sohaib Sultan Suhba Chaplains’ Retreat?

This is the 3rd annual retreat organized by the Association of Muslim Chaplains to provide spiritual nourishment and professional development for Muslim chaplains. It is named in memory of Sohaib Sultan, a pioneering Muslim chaplain.

Who can attend?

The retreat is open to current and retired Muslim chaplains and leadership. Families are also welcome to attend.

What is the schedule and program?

The retreat will be held over 3 nights and 4 days, from Oct 23-26, 2025. The program will include: Workshops and discussions on topics relevant to chaplaincy; opportunities for spiritual rejuvenation through acts of worship and quiet contemplation; recreational activities for families, including desert access and hiking; and campfires and communal meals.

Where is it located? What are the accommodations like?

The retreat will be held at Camp Dickenson in Fries, VA, a little over 2 hours from Charlotte, NC.

Accommodations include single and family accommodations. The facilities are accessible for people with disabilities. Meals are included.

What are the travel logistics?

Please plan to arrive/depart at the following airport:

  1. Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) in Charlotte, North Carolina: Arrive on Thursday before 4pm. Vans will leave from the airport to the event location at regular intervals based on arrival times.

  2. Check-out is 11am on Sunday, please book your return flights according based off 11am exit from the retreat.

What does it include?

All rooms and board includes meals as well as access to all retreat programs and activities.

Are scholarships or fee waivers available?

Limited scholarships and fee waivers may be available based on need. Please contact opsmanager@associationofmuslimchaplains.org to inquire.

Can I bring my family? Are there activities for children? 

Yes, families are welcome. There will be recreational activities that families can enjoy together such as hiking and campfires. However, the workshop sessions will be focused on chaplains.

Are meals provided? Are there options for dietary restrictions?

Yes, all meals are included starting with dinner on Thursday through lunch on Sunday. Please indicate any dietary needs or restrictions during registration so accommodations can be made.

Please indicate any mobility, dietary or health needs during registration so we can make necessary accommodations. The venue and facilities are disability accessible.

Are there opportunities for quiet reflection and worship?

Yes, there will be time allotted each day for optional acts of worship such as prayers, Qur’an recitation, and dhikr.

Will there be a cap on attendance and will it sell out?

Capacity for this retreat will be limited. We anticipate high demand, so we recommend registering as early as possible.

Is there an age minimum or maximum for attendees?

There is no official age minimum or maximum, however, the retreat workshops and sessions will be primarily focused on topics relevant for chaplains.
